One year ago today our sweet sweet little Aislinn was born and we held her in our arms for the first time. And again today a deep longing was filled when she was placed into my arms for the first time in 10 days. Thank you Jesus for this precious gift. Best birthday gift ever.
Never could I have imagined spending Aislinn's first birthday in the PICU. Never could I have imagined that I would even consider such a day a good day. I wish it could have been different, been more like the first birthday that most American babies experience, but we are thankful for her life and the joy she brings to our family. And that can be celebrated wherever we are.

Yep, Ronan got to visit Aislinn for the first time. He did so well, was a little in awe of the whole thing, but handled it well. He got to select a Beanie Baby for himself and one to give to Ais. He understood that her tubes are giving her medicine and that seemed perfectly acceptable to him. :) Such a good boy.
Ending her special day with snuggles from Hammie...
Praises for Today
-a beautiful day of celebration and being completely loved on by everyone around us
-Aislinn's withdrawl from her heavy meds is going well. She was taken off a couple of major drugs and so she got to have a few IVs pulled.
-She is less sedated, though still pretty out of it. We got to spend some time with her while she was somewhat awake. She is tracking voices and light and objects well so far. These are good neurological signs!
Prayer
-we won't have another CT to look at the amount of air in her cyst until Friday. Pray that the air dissipates over the course of tomorrow and that the CT results will give the doctor confidence to move forward with the internal shunt surgery (hopefully this weekend)
-Aislinn's respiratory rate is on the high side. She is doing well breathing on her own, but is still junky in her lungs. Let's Pray her lungs clear up!

Wow. Leave it to God...and he'll make days like these. Days we wouldn't understand until they happen and then they do and you are filled with knowing Him and His goodness all over again, only deeper. So happy for you. I can't help to think how precious it is that on your Birthday last year the Lord drew your full attention and all of your being to bringing Aislinn into this world and a year later he has once again brought you back to a time of connecting again with her in a way you would never hope for but in a way that will bond you ever closer to her forever. Just precious. Also I love that quilt...somebody put a lot of time in that:) just for fun I have a song I sing to my girls at nap & every night....it matches your quilt so perhaps you can sing it to Ais. You can find it on YouTube. It's the cuppycake song....
"you're my honey bunch sugar plumb pumpyumpyumpikin you're my sweety pie
you're my cuppycake Gum drop snug gums boogums you're
the apple of my eye and I love you so and I want you to know that I'll always be right here
And I love to sing sweet songs to you
because you are so dear. "

Lifting up you and your family. Looking and leaning on God for faith, healing and endurance. (hugs).
What an excellent, uplifting day! So glad you got to hold your baby girl - so good for both of you. Best gift ever (clarifies everything, doesn't it?) We're rooting for you from Chicago!

Patrick and Nikki,
You are such troopers! Thanks for the update. We'll be praying for you all!
Such a journey you are all on. Your children are beautiful and so lucky to have you and Patrick. Amazing parents. I went back and read over your entire blog from the beginning, wow what a mother you are Nikki! And what a father little Patrick :-) has become. WOW. So creative and loving and faithful. You are in my prayers and thoughts. Love to you all.
